The Verdict

If you find networking hardware intimidating, the Amazon eero 6+ is built for you. It boasts the most foolproof, user-friendly setup app on the market, making it incredibly easy to replace your clunky BT or Telstra router in under 10 minutes.

Foolproof App Setup

You do not need to know what an IP address or a subnet mask is to use the eero 6+. You simply plug it into your modem, download the eero app, and follow the on-screen prompts. The app automatically configures the network, optimizes your Wi-Fi channels, and even downloads the latest security patches without you lifting a finger.

Speed and Performance Limits

The eero 6+ is a Dual-Band Wi-Fi 6 system, meaning it operates on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies. It is an excellent match for mid-tier internet plans (like NBN 50, NBN 100, or standard 150 Mbps UK Fibre). However, because it lacks a third dedicated wireless backhaul band, it will struggle to deliver full Gigabit (1000 Mbps) speeds across larger homes. For standard HD streaming and web browsing, though, it is rock solid.

Built-in Smart Home Hub

If you use Amazon Alexa, the eero 6+ adds significant value. It has a built-in Zigbee smart home hub. This allows you to connect compatible smart lights, locks, and plugs directly to the router without needing to buy a separate, expensive bridge device.

The Good

  • The easiest setup process of any router we tested
  • Compact, minimalist design blends into any room
  • Built-in Zigbee smart home hub for Alexa devices
  • Very affordable for a Wi-Fi 6 Mesh system

The Bad

  • Advanced parental controls require an "eero Plus" subscription
  • Only two Ethernet ports per node
  • No dedicated backhaul for Gigabit plans
